Roommates and Dogs

My BEAUTIFUL roommate-

My roommate Rachel Dean is so fantastic. I came to Baylor freshman year and I went potluck on my roommate! I had another roommate at first, but then she got moved into an Honors dorm so then I got put with Rachel. It was truly a blessing. She is so hillarious, random, stubborn, and beautiful! We lived together all of freshman year and then we both moved into a condo together! Freshman year she was sexually assaulted and it through a huge curve ball in her life. Things got difficult, but she was always a trooper and kept her head up! I admire how strong she is and how she has relied on God through all of that. She came up with an organization called Someone's Child. It is an organization to bring awareness to other women about date rape. There is a facebook page as well, so yall should check it out! She sells bracelets for $2 each and they are definitely worth it! When people see the colorful bracelet, they will ask what it means. It is a great way to spread the word about date rape even more! So many girls in our society today struggle with constantly worrying about what they look like, what they are wearing, their hair, nails, skin, etc. Well Rachel made a video and added it to YouTube to show that EVERY woman is beautiful and God is ENTHRALLED by your beauty. (Psalm 45:11) She wrote the entire thing. Every woman should check it out. It really makes you think about how we constantly look at what society thinks of us or what they want for us, instead of seeing how God made us perfect in His image. He made us like we are for a reason, and every woman needs to see this.

Here is a link to her video. Please check it out. It is not long at all and it is definitely worth your time :)
Charm is deceptive & beauty is fleeting

Precious little doggies-

So my friend Sam signed up to foster dogs from the Waco Humane Society and talked me into it. I was very hesitant about it until I went to the shelter. They are so precious and it made my heart sad to see all of those dogs in cages with no home. I wanted to take them all, but of course I couldn't. The first day we went into the shelter, me and Sam picked out two of the same puppies. We couldn't get them until that Saturday so we went home. Sam went and got his dog, but I decided not to get that little puppy. I went back on Monday and the lady took me back to see the dogs. I instantly saw this little chihuahua that I knew was just calling my name. I got her out and the lady said, "she is owner surrendered." I said, "well what does that mean?" She said, "She will be euthanized." Instantly my heart sank. I had to take her home. The only problem: she had horrible fleas and ticks. My roommate wasnt super thrilled about her ticks and fleas. The people at the humane society told me to go next door and get her dipped for fleas and ticks. I went over there, but they were about to close. We had to just take her home. I washed her with Dawn soap (I know crazy, but it works!) She was so much cleaner. The fleas were still not gone though. The next day, I had to take her back because they were so bad and they were getting all over my condo. I cried all the way home. Every since, I have missed her and felt like I just needed to get her back. So, I ordered a little crate and I think I am going to go foster her again. She is the most precious thing in the world. I didn't even really like chihuahua's, but we locked eyes and I just loved her. We named her peanut.

Here is a little picture of her after she got all cleaned.

God is so GOOD

God has been doing so many incredible things not only in my life, but my friends lives as well. It makes my heart happy to see Him working in such incredible ways. I recently had spring break and for the last two day so of it I decided to drive home to Arlington. I was in Georgia at the beach for the other part of spring break but I decided I wanted to at least spend two days at home and see my best friends. It was the best decision I ever made! I drove home that Saturday and I planned to have dinner with Paige and Alexandra. We went to Grease Monkey which was so good. I don't really like hamburgers but it was fantastic. It is so incredible to hear about what God has done in Paige's life. She grew up in a strong Christian family, but she found herself following the wrong crowd and getting caught up in what society told her was right. This winter break her brother Price, who works at The Prayer Room, told her and Pierce, her other brother, to go to Kansas with them to a Christian conference. She wasn't too thrilled, but she convinced Pierce to go and they went. I remember texting her and seeing how she was doing. I just remember she texted back "Krissy I am being filled up." I hadn't heard Paige like that in a while. I knew something had changed. She came back to Arlington a different person. God moved in her life in so many ways in those five days than I have ever seen. He revealed to her that the path she was going down had nothing for her. She thought she could go down that path and she would be fine until she hit rock bottom and then she would find herself out of it herself. When in reality, she needed God and Him telling her that she will not be filled up with what she was doing. She could only be filled up with Him. I have never seen Paige so fearless in my life. She is not afraid to talk about her relationship with God and how He has changed her life. It really makes me think because that is one of the things I struggle with most. It is hard for me to go out of my comfort zone and tell people about Christ and what He has done in my life in fear that they will look at me differently or think of me in a weird way. She has encouraged me to not worry about what people think. God is so insanely amazing and I want everyone to know Him! I want to jump out of my comfort zone and tell people about Him. I have never seen Paige so happy in her life. She is happy because she has Christ. I love to see her so happy. It has made an impact on my life and my own relationship with Christ. It also brought me and her closer together. I felt that she was so distant when she was going down that path. It was so hard to sit back and watch her life and not really be able to do anything about it but pray. She is my accountability partner, encourager, and best friend. I am so happy that we have a God that is forgiving and knows our sins and mistakes before we make them. He can take us out of our darkness with His light.

God is a god of love.

Such incredible women of God. So insanely blessed to have these girls in my life and to call them my best friends.

It's going by too fast...

So far this semester has been so amazing. I changed my major from Fashion Design to Child and Family Studies and I definitely made the right decision. It took me a while to be alright with the change and fully know that I made the right decision, but this is where God wants me. I hope to become a preschool teacher after I graduate. So many people say that teachers don't make much money, but for me it is not about the income, it is about the outcome! I want to see that light in the children when they understand something, or learn something new. Sometimes I do miss being with the amazing people in the fashion program here at Baylor, but I am happy where I am now. The number one reason why I love this semester so far is because I LOVE all of my classes. There is not one that I would ever want to drop or do not want to go to. God has been doing so many incredible things in my life. I recently rushed KXA which is one of the girls Christian sororities here at Baylor. Being surrounded by such beautiful, Godly, wonderful girls has been such a blessing. I also visited Highland Baptist with two other friends and we absolutely loved it, so we decided to start going there. I felt so welcome and I loved all of the people. It was crazy because after the service a couple of Sundays ago, me, Claire, and Rebecca signed up to go on a women's retreat. We drove out to Latham Springs that Friday and it was so much fun. Although we didn't know anyone, it was great and God really spoke to me that weekend. God is so incredible and I cannot wait to see what else He has in store for me this semester. I cannot wait to grow deeper with the Lord and share Him with others!

Here are some pictures of my wonderful new Alpha Zeta sisters! I love them so much!

I also wanted to leave yall with an amazing verse that my sweet friend Paige sent me the other day:
"You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands."
-Psalm 63:1-4

Scarves

Black and Brown!
An orange scarf is a great color this season!
Well y'all, I am very into scarves right now. Ever since I got to college, I have been trying new things and new fashion out. In high school I never really wore scarves! I mean yes we do live in Texas, but still when it gets cold I love my scarves. You can pair scarves with just about anything! Pair a nice soft light brown scarf with a black and white striped shirt, black pants, and brown boots. I know you are thinking "ugh Kristen brown and black again?" Its cute guys just think about it a little longer. I will put a picture up to show you that it isn't that bad! You can also pair a colored/floral scarf with a black dress, cardi, and some colored tights and brown boots. Can you say adorable? There are so many great ways to pair scarves with your clothes. Y'all all need to try it out especially since it's getting pretty cold!
Dress, cardi, scarf, and some boots!

Leopard print scarf? YES please!

Boots, boots, and MORE boots!

Boots seem to be a must this season! I am obsessed with them myself. I have always been a boot lover, but this season they seem to be everywhere! I have especially been seeing more over the knee boots and I think they are great! Before, I would have never picked them out for myself, but now they are growing on me. You can wear boots with so many things. I love wearing a pair of brown boots with my black jeans. You have to tuck your jeans into the boots, or it just doesn't seem to work! I also love wearing them with skirts and dresses. I like black boots, but I am especially in love with all of the different brown shades. They are so versatile and I believe every girl looks great in them!

The Black and White Striped Shirt

The black and white striped shirt is a must have this season. You can mix and match it with SO many things. I recently bought one from Ann Taylor Loft and it is one of my favorite purchases by far! I love pairing it with my black jeans, but because I don't like too much black, I will put a colored cardi over it and roll the sleeves up. I also will pair the shirt with my grey knit skirt from Ann Taylor Loft and wear colored tights and brown boots. I know a ton of people don't like brown and black together, but I am all for it! (well to a certain extent). Here are some ideas on how to pair your black and white striped shirt!
